Pensacola's all soliders and tourists
all capitalists killin' forests
more concrete every day
less star light each night that im awake
rich folks think peace is a house in the woods
or wherever the poor been pushed
goods get imported
the works for convenience sake
the new shop is up
the landlord is paid
the new lease is a bit more every year
new wages the same as the old
I'm no seer
but i see that
I need a tool pack
the kind full of dynamite and IDs stat
I think we can make it better
if we just pull ourselves together
I think we can make it work
if we just put our fists up
Seen drugs turn weird like once wasnt enough
but these cops only look for a bust
heard a friends brother had died in his arms
in a slip up cuz the plug thought he was involved with the law
seen friends too high and changed
while treatment centers talk guilt and then grace
in a country that treats you like you did wrong
for not praying the heroin out of your arm
and call cops when theyre beggin' for change
when bodies are dead in the grave, they start sayin'
they dont know what happened
like they aint acting
saying someone should help its so tragic
I think we can make it better
if we just pull ourselves together
I think we can make it work
if we put our fists up first
picture a place that I cant speak of
our fists up
chasin' the klan as they run
heads high
and then God as my witness
this dem complained we all rained on her picnic
nobody'll admit they hate
but stayin' neutral makes them complicit, the same
yall see protests and just get pissed
at the traffic and not all the nazis and shit
can you not just admit the perk of your side
is unearned privilege for anyone white
that can't slide
so its fuck what you thought
you can either get with it or get lost
the process is strange
you say your awake
but that state dont force a change
see, its the act of putting those words into action
to tear this whole thing down and refashion it
to something against all the rich
opposed to the cops and the klan and their tryst
how many mother fuckin meetings i been in
where folks talk big and still miss everything since?
dont wanna be angry
i dont want the violence realizing
its all that they gave me
and life could be so much more
but we gotta stop waiting around for concord, cause
I think we can make it better
if we just pull ourselves together
I think we can make it work
if we just put our fists up
I think we can make it better
like the weather is cold and im patchin a sweater
I'm sure we can make it work
like a witch on a curse
or my voice on a verse
see I'm needin' the mic
like a bottle or fifth
or a molotov straight in the face of a pig
I'm pickin' my words
like a flower from dirt
seedin' the beat
I'm the actual worst
mind changer. this is the Sole record ive been waiting for. everything on point. style honed. music open and on lease. best Sole album for me. love it. GalacticSON
Originally bought the CD years ago, but streaming it while riding through Northeast OH seemed like the appropriate way to listen to the album at high volume. Peace and respect to the entire BeatRock Fam. AA
This wonderful album hit me hard in 2003. Boards of Canada / Autechre were on the pure exploratory electronic side of music. Sole with seling live water came unexpectedly with a noisier and more electronic variant at that time, which was understood as hip hop. Very well aged, still valid and no favorite to choose. Solid!
Thanks for the uplifting Rmxs! nikarabot
